Let’s talk Greenovation x Biodiversity

On May 14, 2025, our Let’s talk Greenovation event in Hamburg put the spotlight on a topic that often remains in the shadow of the climate crisis: the biodiversity crisis. But anyone who was there could sense that this is nothing less than the future of our planet.

Science YouTuber Jacob Beautemps kicked off the evening with an impressive experiment and then moderated the discussion. Together with evolutionary biologist Prof. Dr. Matthias Glaubrecht, he illustrated how far global species extinction has already progressed. Marie Schreiber from Wilderness International then gave fascinating insights into ongoing rainforest research projects. She presented both traditional and innovative approaches to protecting and monitoring biodiversity—from XX to XX. To conclude the evening, Marco Schmidt from TU Berlin shared his personal experiences in urban biodiversity research, using the example of the green bunker in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district.

One thing became clear that evening: Biodiversity is not a side issue – it is the foundation of life. Intact ecosystems not only ensure the survival of countless animal and plant species, but also our food, health, and climate. The loss of this diversity has far-reaching consequences – ecologically, economically, and socially.

Through engaging conversations and lively discussions, it became evident: the challenges are immense – but so are the passion, ideas, and commitment of those involved. Because everyone can make a difference. Whether through conscious consumption, political engagement, or supporting conservation projects – protecting biodiversity starts with each of us.
